Position Title: Analyst

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

About ScOp Venture Capital:

ScOp Venture Capital invests in early-stage B2B software & AI companies with scalable opportunities. Our focus is on businesses that have achieved proof of product-market fit and solve fundamental consumer or business needs. We provide capital and strategic advice to help companies scale effectively.

The role: 

You will work alongside the four partners of ScOp Venture Capital to assist with all aspects of the investment lifecycle, from sourcing deals, to participating in pitches, to performing due diligence, to assisting existing portfolio companies. The ideal person is not only interested in technology, but also adept at it. We look for someone that will have a strong command of modern software tools and use them to improve the speed and quality of our processes. You will also be asked to contribute to various administrative tasks, such as preparing quarterly updates for our LPs. Our previous two analysts went onto taking operating roles in our portfolio companies. If you are looking for a career at the intersection of investing and operating, this is a good role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify investment opportunities.
  • Source and meet with companies that fit ScOp’s investment criteria.
  • Evaluate potential investments through financial modeling and due diligence.
  • Support portfolio companies with strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Prepare investment memos and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Track industry trends and maintain a database of relevant information.
  • Build repeatable solutions through automation, using no code tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field.
  • Deep curiosity about technology evolution, societal trends and entrepreneurship.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with complex data analysis and relevant tools.
  • Highly effective communication and persuasion skills.
  • Reasonable fluency in fundamental business concepts (accounting, investing).
  • Unrelenting determination.
