Job Description

SUMMARY

Performs various tasks under supervision to assist in the everyday operations of the Calf Ranch by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Feed calves milk and/or grain according to schedule; mix milk per instructions and distribute according to supervisor directions. Monitor calves for signs of illness and administer medication under supervision. Will transport calves to the appropriate pens as they grow.
  • Sanitize hutches, milk bottles/nipples, grain and water buckets between use to ensure healthy feeding facilities. Clean and replace bedding of pens and hutches.
  • Perform routine repairs and general maintenance tasks, including calf hutch assembly and maintenance, and keep trash and debris clear of the area.
  • Once qualified, employees will run equipment including loaders, tractors with bottle trailers, water and grain truck, forklift, skid steers and pressure washer.
  • Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
