About the Role

Arizona G&T is seeking a Contract Attorney to provide expert legal counsel on power and transmission agreements, regulatory compliance, and contractual matters. In this role, you will draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts while ensuring compliance with industry regulations (WECC, NERC, FERC) and corporate policies.

This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional with 1 - 5 years of experience in contract law, energy regulations, and utility industry transactions to make a strategic impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate, and revise power purchase agreements, transmission agreements, and inter-utility contracts
• Provide legal counsel on contract interpretation, compliance, and risk mitigation strategies
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including WECC, NERC, FERC, and RUS policies
• Collaborate with internal teams (Resource Planning, Energy Services, Financial Services) to align contracts with operational goals
• Manage contract disputes, amendments, and enforcement while minimizing legal risks
• Represent the company in negotiations with external parties, including utilities, government agencies, and legal counsel
• Track contract performance and regulatory updates to advise on necessary adjustments
• Support corporate governance by ensuring contractual compliance with industry best practices

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; active bar membership required

Experience: 1-5 years of legal experience in contract law, utility regulations, or energy industry transactions

Legal & Industry Expertise:

• Strong understanding of contract principles, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation
• Direct experience with energy and utility contracts, including power purchase agreements (PPAs) and transmission service agreements (TSAs)
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, including FERC, NERC, and WECC policies

Skills & Abilities:

• Exceptional negotiation and drafting skills with a keen eye for detail
• Ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and provide strategic recommendations
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with executives, technical teams, and external stakeholders
• High level of initiative, independence, and ability to manage multiple high-priority projects
