Job Description

We are working with a well-established commercial specialty contractor in Orlando that focuses on interior and exterior wall systems, ceilings, and architectural specialties . They are seeking a Drywall Estimator to prepare competitive, accurate bids and contribute to the company’s continued growth.

This role offers exposure to a wide variety of commercial projects and an opportunity to work closely with operations and field teams while advancing your estimating expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural, structural, and subcontract documents to determine scope for drywall, metal framing, finishing systems, acoustical ceilings, and exterior wall systems.
  • Perform take-offs for materials (gypsum board, metal studs, channels, finishes, accessories), labor hours, equipment, and subcontractor packages.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, overhead, mark-up, and contingencies.
  • Prepare formal bid packages: assumptions, exclusions, scope clarifications, value-engineering options, and margin analysis.
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and field teams to ensure estimates reflect productivity, sequencing, logistics, and field realities.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases: labor productivity, vendor/sub-vendor quotes, historical costs, and regional material trends.
  • Participate in bid review meetings: present estimating logic, assumptions, and risk factors; support bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities that reduce cost or schedule while maintaining performance and code compliance.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with contract requirements: fire ratings, acoustical standards, safety, bonding, insurance, and labor classifications.
  • Support project teams after award to compare actual costs against estimates and provide lessons-learned for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3–5 years of estimating experience in drywall, metal framing, interior/exterior wall systems, or related specialty trades for commercial or institutional projects.
  • Strong knowledge of drywall systems, finishing levels, fire-rated partitions, acoustical ceilings, light gauge metal framing, and architectural specialties.
  • Proficient with digital take-off and estimating software (e.g., OST) and Excel for cost analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail in quantity take-offs and cost build-ups.
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications, and schedules and communicate scope clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills; able to convey estimating logic and cost implications to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of regional labor productivity, subcontractor market conditions, and material cost trends.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience preferred.

What’s on Offer:

  • Competitive salary with performance-based incentives tied to bid wins and estimating accuracy.
  • Opportunity to work with a stable, reputable contractor recognized for quality craftsmanship and expertise in interior/exterior wall systems.
  • Exposure to a broad range of commercial projects to build estimating and technical knowledge.
  • Collaborative culture that values initiative, accuracy, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
  • Clear path for professional development and increased responsibility in estimating and preconstruction.
