An elected official in Columbia is seeking a highly capable and solutions-driven Executive Assistant to support and serve as a trusted advisor and administrative partner to senior leadership, operating with discretion, professionalism, and a deep understanding of state government operations. The ideal candidate is familiar with the legislative process, excels in a fast-paced environment, and possesses excellent political acumen, networking skills, and sound judgment.

This role requires someone who can wear multiple hats—navigating interactions with high-profile stakeholders, managing sensitive information, and keeping leadership informed while providing proactive solutions. The position supports a progressive Treasurer who values initiative and forward-thinking problem-solving.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor legislation impacting the agency; analyze and summarize bills from the Senate and House
  • Prepare memos, policy briefs, and updates to inform and advise leadership
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including legislation and contracts
  • Manage an active calendar of meetings, travel, and appointments
  • Book travel and handle scheduling logistics
  • Prepare briefing materials, reports, board meeting notes, and other high-level documents
  • Organize and maintain electronic and physical files
  • Provide executive support for special projects and state agency initiatives
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders across government entities
  • Support preparation for high-level meetings
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters and conduct oneself professionally in public and press interactions
  • Serve as a liaison between the agency and elected officials, other agencies, and stakeholders
  • Compose correspondence and reports with clarity, discretion, and accuracy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant major
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Finance/Accounting or paralegal experience is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the legislative process and familiarity with state government operations
  • Demonstrated experience in working with or around elected officials and senior government personnel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare high-quality briefs and correspondence
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to present recommendations alongside issues
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, especially under deadline pressure
  • Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related tools for scheduling and documentation
  • Comfortable navigating politically sensitive environments and high-profile engagements

Compensation: $75,000-85,000
