Description:
The Hazmat Technician is responsible for handling, transporting, and disposing of hazardous materials while ensuring safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
· Emergency Response: React to hazardous material spills, leaks, and contamination incidents.
· Cleanup & Disposal: Safely remove and dispose of hazardous substances following regulatory standards.
· Equipment Operation: Use specialized tools such as protective suits and respirators.
· Training & Compliance: Educate personnel on safety procedures and maintain adherence to OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
· Record Keeping: Document hazardous material incidents and response efforts.

Qualifications:
· HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) 40-hour training (a plus)
· Knowledge of hazardous material handling, containment, and disposal
· Strong problem-solving and risk assessment skills
· Ability to work in emergency conditions wearing protective gear
Will receive and identify material. Will locate, retrieve, load and unload material utilizing hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment which move material to and from trucks within the facility. Will tally types and quantities against receiving and shipping documents. Operates heavy equipment such as forklift. Duties may also include, but are not limited to, the following: Under the direction of the Health, Safety, Environmental (EHS) Manager and/or Hazmat Coordinator, the Hazmat Technician will be responsible to adhere to all applicable requirements of the installations Hazardous Material/Waste Management Plan. Will be responsible for handling hazardous or toxic materials in a safe manner to minimize safety hazard, prevent spills, and reduce/eliminate Hazardous Waste generation.
Has knowledge of standard practices and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Supervision: Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Education: May require a high school diploma with 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
