Licensed Behavioral Health Therapist (Outpatient)

Must Haves: Must have active LCSW or LCPC license

Hours: 40 hours per week, normal business hours, onsite

Contract Duration: contract-to-hire

Job Overview:

The Licensed Behavioral Health Therapist (Outpatient) provides behavioral health assessments, crisis management, therapeutic support, and psychotherapy for patients in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. Under the direction of the ambulatory provider, this role supports mental health care coordination, evaluates patient safety, and recommends appropriate treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with patients’ providers and other mental health professionals to coordinate care.
• Conduct screenings and assessments for mental health and substance abuse disorders.
• Monitor patients for symptom changes, treatment side effects, and complications.
• Support medication management by tracking adherence, side effects, and effectiveness.
• Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques such as Behavioral Activation, Problem-Solving Treatment, and Motivational Interviewing.
• Participate in weekly case consultations with the Psychiatric Consultant and communicate recommendations to providers.
• Mentor staff on clinical cases and professional development.
• Adjust treatment plans for patients not showing expected improvement in collaboration with the provider and Psychiatric Consultant.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff regarding care plans.
• Stay updated on clinical theory, evidence-based practices, and crisis/behavioral health policies.
• Maintain professional boundaries and contribute positively to team and hospital activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a mental health-related field from an accredited institution.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) in Illinois (or ability to obtain licensure within two weeks of employment start date).
• Two (2) years of experience providing individual therapy in a mental health setting, including internship/training experience.
• Proficiency in evidence-based counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Problem-Solving Therapy (PST).
