Job Description

ROLE

We are seeking a Mail Support Specialist to support the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC) in Washington, D.C. Your responsibilities will focus on managing incoming and outgoing mail, distributing internal correspondence, and maintaining tracking logs in accordance with federal mail handling procedures and OSHRC internal protocols.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage receipt, logging, and sorting of incoming mail and packages from USPS and commercial carriers
  • Distribute mail to designated departments, staff, or internal mail stops
  • Prepare outgoing mail by weighing, packaging, labeling, and metering according to USPS and agency standards
  • Maintain logs for certified, registered, express, and priority mail
  • Handle time-sensitive and confidential materials with care and in accordance with established procedures
  • Support internal mail delivery between adjacent offices
  • Monitor mailroom supply levels and request replenishment when needed
  • Notify recipients of oversized or signature-required deliveries
  • Assist in implementing mailing procedures and security protocols
  • Report suspicious packages or irregularities immediately in accordance with agency policy

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of standard mail handling and delivery procedures
  • Skilled in sorting, logging, and distributing physical correspondence
  • Skilled in using postage meters, scales, and labeling tools
  • Ability to track and maintain mailroom supplies and delivery logs
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to handling protocols

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a mailroom, administrative, or facilities support role
  • Experience managing time-sensitive or confidential mail
  • Experience working in a professional office or government setting
  • Experience preparing and processing outgoing mail and packages
  • Experience following procedures for secure internal mail distribution

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Undergraduate degree preferred

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
