Job Title: Radiation Control Technician 3 (RCT 3)

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA

Clearance Required: Ability to obtain Q clearance

Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizenship Required

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, including rotating shift/weekend schedules. Shift differential may apply.

Salary: $42 - $48/hr + Full time Benefits + Per Diem~!

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a Q clearance , which includes a federal background investigation and eligibility to access classified matter .

Experience supporting high-hazard radiological jobs and implementing 10CFR835 radiation protection procedures is required.

Applicants unwilling or unable to meet physical demands , including lifting instruments and wearing PPE (respirators), or to work irregular hours, rotating shifts, or weekends, will not be considered .

As an RCT 3, your work directly impacts the safety of radiological operations and regulatory compliance. You will perform critical radiation monitoring, lead emergency response actions, and provide health physics support in complex operational settings.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide radiological support through surveillance, monitoring, and data interpretation
  • Ensure compliance with 10CFR835 and internal radiation protection procedures
  • Support and mentor peers in contamination control, monitoring, exposure control, and emergency response
  • Direct other RCTs in field operations during emergency or high-hazard activities
  • Interface with emergency personnel and health physicists during incident responses
  • Apply radiation work permits, monitor high-risk activities, and review radiological work for safety
  • Work independently within established procedures and priorities

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 2–4 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Skilled in radiological safety, monitoring equipment, and contamination control procedures
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and solve technical problems within guidelines
  • Willingness and ability to wear PPE, including respiratory protection

Desired Skills

  • Additional training, certifications, or technical education
  • Experience in emergency response within radiological environments
  • Familiarity with DOE regulations and nuclear facility operations
  • Leadership or mentoring experience in technical field settings

Education and Experience Requirements

This position typically requires a high school diploma and 2–4 years of relevant experience. Additional technical education and certifications are desirable. This role is subject to DOE Order 426.2, ensuring personnel are qualified for nuclear facility duties.

Clearance & HRP Requirements

  • Q Clearance Required: Subject to Federal background investigation
  • DOE Human Reliability Program (HRP): Includes ongoing drug/alcohol testing and periodic medical and psychological evaluations
  • U.S. Citizenship Required under DOE Order 472.2
