GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Social Worker provides high-quality patient care through comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and discharge coordination. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker delivers clinical and crisis intervention services to patients in the Emergency and Psychiatry Departments, ensuring timely evaluation, treatment, and disposition. Serves as a key resource to patients, families, and the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical and Unit Responsibilities:

  • Complete psychosocial evaluations and documentation within institutional standards.

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and discharge plans in collaboration with patients, families, and providers.

  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy using sound theoretical and clinical principles.

  • Coordinate discharge planning for patients with complex needs, ensuring timely transitions and connection to community resources.

  • Maintain thorough, timely, and professional progress notes and reports.

Emergency Department Responsibilities:

  • Perform psychiatric assessments and crisis interventions following established protocols.

  • Communicate critical findings to ED physicians and psychiatry staff to determine appropriate disposition.

  • Recommend least restrictive treatment options and coordinate care across departments.

  • Incorporate evidence-based practices and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain up-to-date training in crisis intervention and high-risk patient assessment.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support program development, goal setting, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain clinical competency.

  • Participate in departmental planning and evaluation processes.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Expertise in psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and discharge planning.

  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

  • Proficiency with electronic health records and related technology.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited program.

  • LICSW licensure in the District of Columbia.

  • 2–5 years of experience in psychiatric social work, including adult, geriatric, and crisis care.

  • Current CPR certification required.

Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
