Job Description

Waypoint Bio is a venture-backed biotech startup building the next generation of cell therapies for solid tumors and autoimmune diseases. Joining our team as a 2025 intern means working with a group of innovative and collaborative scientists who share the mission of bringing the promise of immune cell therapy to all cancer patients.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic research intern who is motivated to develop scientific knowledge and skills while providing extensive technical support. In this role, you will join our team to contribute to spatial biology and microscopy R&D at our lab at the Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York (430 E 29th St).

In this position, you will have the opportunity to learn and implement wide-ranging techniques in immunology, cell and cancer therapies, and microscopy alongside a team of multi-disciplinary scientists.

Time Commitment:

You may be a good fit for this role if you can commit at least 20 hours/week. Please detail your availability in your cover letter.

Education Requirements:

  • Recent graduates of BS and/or graduate school programs
  • Individuals with BS or MS degree in progress (Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, or a related field) also encouraged to apply

Key Duties Include:

  • Prepare samples for microscopy
  • Test different spatial biology technologies, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and FISH based techniques, for detection of different proteins and RNAs through Waypoint’s spatial biology platform
  • Manage general laboratory operations and organization, such as maintaining equipment, reagents, and supplies
  • Develop and write scientific protocols, analyze data, and communicate experimental results
  • Keep detailed scientific records in an electronic lab notebook and actively contribute to the organization & general housekeeping of the lab
  • Provide conceptual input on experimental design and interpretation in a team setting

Skills and Experience:

  • Expertise in molecular biology and/or cell biology, including hands-on experience performing experiments
  • Enthusiasm for taking initiative on a range of responsibilities
  • Ability to learn quickly, prioritize multiple tasks in accordance with changing responsibilities, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to work collaboratively
  • Plus: Hands-on experience using fluorescence microscopy for detection of proteins, nucleic acids, or other biological molecules
  • Plus: Knowledge of immunology and/or cancer biology

About Waypoint Bio:

Traditional cell therapy development faces a trade-off between in vitro approaches that are fast but inaccurate, and in vivo approaches that are accurate but slow and expensive. Waypoint has built a proprietary spatial biology & machine learning platform that enables pooled cell therapy screens in vivo - profiling how hundreds of designs affect a solid tumor in a single mouse, while measuring each design's performance across distinct clinically-relevant parameters. This high-throughput approach compresses years of work into a single experiment by achieving 100x the throughput of conventional animal experiments.

Please upload CV and cover letter to apply.
