Job Description

The Opportunity

APG is seeking an experienced, self-driven, and ‘Do-it-Right’ Aircraft Performance Engineer. This is a full-time technical position involving the design, development, and maintenance of engineering analysis software packages and aircraft performance data. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering and data support for the Company’s runway analysis, flight planning and weight and balance software applications, ensuring they accurately reflect the aircraft manufacturer’s original Aircraft Flight Manuals (AFM), Pilot Operating Handbooks (POH) and software modules. Some software development skills may be required. The Aircraft Performance Engineer I is also responsible for maintaining quality assurance by validating the digital aircraft data, testing completed aircraft files against applicable manufacturer data, and testing aircraft data in the final software release using customer tools.

This position will be based in Lone Tree area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret, digitize, and reformat aircraft performance data for use within custom systems.
  • Test and debug software and associated data to validate the results match the original engineering data.
  • Provide technical support to the information technology and sales teams
  • Determine maximum takeoff and landing weights based on available runway parameters, meteorological conditions, obstacle and terrain geometry, and aircraft-specific performance data.
  • Determine required takeoff and landing field lengths and speeds for a given aircraft weight based on the required calculation parameters.
  • Determine time and fuel required to complete a flight between two airports based on meteorological conditions and aircraft specific performance data.
  • Determine aircraft center-of-gravity, fuel burn profile, and required ballast fuel based on aircraft empty weight and moment data, fuel tank CG data, and specific aircraft loading configuration.
  • Aid in the design and development of software applications, systems, and re-design or re-engineering of existing systems to fulfill the needs of customers
  • Provide email and phone support for engineering related questions

Required Experience and Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other technical discipline and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Proficiency in Adobe software (i.e., Acrobat) as well as Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and schedule effectively
  • Ability to work with multiple units of measure
  • Ability to adapt and apply previous lessons learned to new engineering situations
  • Ability to make timely and accurate decisions, logic in decision making, composure in stressful situations
  • Experience with Aircraft Flight Manuals desired
  • Experience with Runway Analysis and/or Weight and Balance calculations desired
  • FAA Private Pilot License (desired) or FAA Dispatchers License desired
